about Cloudeezy and Nextcloud
Nextcloud is under the GNU AGPLv3 license, one of the most widely used open source licenses. Written with the participation of lawyers and industry leaders from around the world, it is a clear, balanced and well understood license, providing users with a level of certainty that no single company's license can provide. Today, it is a widely used and widely accepted license by many stakeholders, including developers, users, organizations and large companies.
AGPLv3 guarantees that all users of the software can use, study, share and improve the software without any legal risk. In addition, its patent clause guarantees all users a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to all patents held by current or future contributors to the code.
In addition, Nextcloud GmbH guarantees that each customer can use Nextcloud and exercise all the rights conferred by GNU AGPLv3 without infringing any patent or copyright.
Nextcloud is well optimized to be quickly operational by individuals and small businesses. But as a business, you also need more than software: you need guarantees that it works the way you want it to, that the prodiction environment is secure, monitored, tracked and reliable.
Cloudeezy offers you the guarantee, with the help of our experts in various fields, of long-term updates, quick access to security updates and additional services such as enhanced security, an infrastructure that grows with your needs, compliance with current regulations and 24-hour technical support and follow-up.
By offering in-depth knowledge and specialized services, you get the confidence you need to rely on Nextcloud.
With Cloudeezy instances, you can install all Nextcloud applications on your instance. However, some applications require the installation of additional services such as (but not limited to):
- Elesticsearch for "Full Text" search
- Tessaract OCR for OCR recognition
For most of these services, you can configure an external service and provide only the login access to these services (access link and authentication) leaving you free to choose the provider (for example, Elasticsearch Cloud).
If you wish to entrust Cloudeezy with this installation and its outsourcing, contact us for a quote.
For all applications that do not require specific installations and/or configurations (such as Deck, Contacts, Circles, etc. - i.e. 95% of applications) a simple request to support will suffice to activate the applications on your dedicated instance, provided that they are compatible with your version of Nextcloud.
You also have the possibility to develop/have developed applications specific to your uses if they do not exist in the community. Please see the Develop for Nextcloud page.
Log files store, among other things: the IP address, the browser used, the time and date of visits and the operating system used by visitors. The server only stores the pseudonymized IP addresses of site visitors.
At the web server level, this occurs by default by recording an IP address 123.123.123.xxx in the log file instead of the visitor's actual IP address, for example 220.127.116.11. "XXX" is a random value between 1 and 254, so it is no longer possible to establish the visitor's true identity.
In addition, we only record accesses that result in an error, so by default accesses with 4xx or 5xx codes for debugging and security reasons.
Log files are kept for 30 days and analyzed by an internal security system to detect unauthorized intrusion attempts only. No other type of analysis is performed.
Security is about means, procedures and processes, but it is also about clear and transparent information for customers. That's why we have an article dedicated to this purpose.

Access to your instance is provided either:
- by the secure access of the web interface on a browser (Firefox, Chrome...),
- by synchronization clients (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android...),
- by the WebDAV protocol through a compatible WebDAV client.
No access to physical instances is provided to you, for obvious security reasons, but also because all the administration of your instances is entirely provided by Cloudeezy's teams.
Our Nextcloud instances are provided on a turnkey basis, and all outsourcing is handled by us, 24 hours a day.
Talk works in peer-to-peer (P2P) mode, i.e. each participant sends an end-to-end encrypted stream to each other participant and receives a stream from each other participant. This increases the bandwidth usage and power requirements of each user's device to decode audio/video streams.
To limit bandwidth usage, Talk automatically disables video when a call is initiated in a room with 5 or more participants. This is due to the technical implementation details of WebRTC which is used by Talk.
A typical Nextcloud Talk instance can handle a few dozen calls, but each call can only have about 4 participants, depending on the bandwidth of the participants. So this is not a limit for Cloudeezy infrastructures.
To scale Nextcloud Talk and make it work in a business environment, you need the High Performance Backend (HPB), which can be provided by Cloudeezy as an additional service. This component is very resource-intensive and that's why we can't include it in our default STARTER offering. The additional cost is 30€ (excl. taxes) per month for 20 users (for more users, please contact us). However, we include it by default in our PROFESSIONAL and COMPANY offers, for 20 simultaneous users in conversation (audio/video).
Chat conversations are not impacted by these limits and are totally unlimited.
